Recipe Background

The Aperol® Spritz is a vibrant, bubbly cocktail perfect for summer sightseeing.
The first time I shook hands with the bewitching concoction known as the Aperol® Spritz was during a breezy summer in Vienna. I'd been a fresh-faced exchange student, doing my utmost to soak up every bit of culture and cuisine Austria had to offer. My host family, delightful and ever so welcoming, had taken me to a local café that overlooked the Danube. There, amidst Austrian charm and a hint of nostalgia for home, I tasted the vibrant notes of bubbly Prosecco and the bittersweet delight of Aperol mingling with soda water. The drink was like a postcard in a glass, transporting me back to lazy afternoons by the river.
The moment was simple yet transformative. I remember how the orange slices floated like tiny life preservers in a sea of sparkling refreshment, the ice clinking gently against the glass. It was an education in balance, much like the gentle swirl one must give the concoction before sipping to awaken its zesty spirit. My tip for this beautiful beverage is to always use cold glasses straight from the freezer to enhance its crisp notes. Though my time in Vienna eventually came to an end, every sip of this drink takes me back, perfectly capturing the essence of summer and adventure.
