The Scoop
This cake does not pretend to be complicated.
Apple Dump Cake is what happens when buttery cake mix meets gooey apple pie filling and decides to skip every unnecessary baking rule.
Fresh apples bring a little texture and brightness, cinnamon adds that unmistakable cozy warmth, and the whole thing bakes into a golden, crisp-topped, bubbling dessert.
It’s rustic, ridiculously easy, and exactly the kind of dessert that makes people ask for the recipe while quietly hoping you’ll just make it again.
Ingredients
- 3 large apples, optional
- 2 (21-ounce) cans apple pie filling
- 1 (15.25-ounce) box white, yellow, or spice cake mix

- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon or 1 tablespoon cinnamon sugar
Directions
- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
- Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.
- On a cutting board with a sharp knife, peel the apples, remove the core, dice into bite-sized pieces, and then spread the diced apples on the bottom of the prepared baking dish.
- Add the apple pie filling to the top of the diced apple layer.
- Evenly sprinkle the dry cake mix over the top of the apple pie filling layer. Note: Do not combine the dry cake mix with the apple layers.
- Evenly pour the melted butter all over the top of the dry cake mix layer and ensure there are no dry spots.
- Sprinkle the cinnamon on top of the cake.
- Bake, until browned and cooked through, about 50-60 minutes.
- Transfer the baked cake from the oven to a wire rack to cool.
- With a sharp knife, cut the cake into individual-sized pieces and serve.
