Recipe Background
Gourmet Chocolate Covered Strawberries: a creative dessert perfect for impressing at any gathering.
It was the first time I was meeting my partner's family, and I wanted to bring something special, something that would show my personality and love for food. I remembered my partner once mentioning how much their sister loved chocolate covered strawberries, so that was the inspiration I needed. I gathered semisweet chocolate, fresh strawberries, and a medley of toppings like Oreo crumbs and shredded coconut. The night before the big day, I found myself in my small kitchen, melting chocolate in 30-second bursts in the microwave and giving gentle twists to shed the excess as I dipped each strawberry. It was something magical, transforming these simple ingredients into little works of art.
After meticulously lining each strawberry on parchment paper, I remembered a trick a friend shared: drizzle some white chocolate to add that extra visual flair. The drizzle can elevate the strawberries to a new level of sophistication. With a touch of nervous excitement, I arranged the strawberries in a beautiful box. Upon meeting his family, I offered my creation. Their eyes lit up, and I could tell this gesture broke the ice. They appreciated the effort, and even after the lunch ended, those strawberries were the talk of the evening. Little did I know, this recipe would become my go-to dessert for all celebrations, a delicious reminder of that warm, welcoming day.
Ingredients
- 1 (10-ounce) package semisweet or milk chocolate
- white chocolate to taste
- assorted nuts to taste
- shredded coconut to taste
- Oreo® crumbs to taste
- sprinkles to taste
- 2 pounds fresh strawberries
Directions
- Dry the outside of the strawberries thoroughly. The chocolate will not stay on the strawberries if they are wet.
- Pour the chocolate chips into a microwaveable bowl.
- Pour your preferred toppings in separate bowls.
- Line a baking sheet pan with parchment or waxed paper.
- Microwave the chocolate in 30-second intervals, making sure to stir between intervals, until the chocolate is completely melted.
- Hold 1 of the strawberries by the stem, and dip it into the melted chocolate.
- Lift the strawberry from the chocolate, giving it a slight twist to help the excess chocolate fall back into the bowl.
- Dip the strawberry in your preferred toppings, doing a similar twist as you lift the strawberry out.
- Place the dipped strawberry on the prepared sheet tray.
- Repeat the process with the rest of the strawberries.
- For decoration, dip a fork in the melted white chocolate and use it to drizzle it over the dipped strawberries.
- Chill the strawberries in the refrigerator until the chocolate hardens and creates a shell around the strawberries, about 15 minutes.
- Serve!
