Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 pounds lean ground beef cooked and drained
  • 8 slices bacon cooked and diced
  • 1 small onion diced
  • 1 small green bell pepper diced
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1/4 cup oatmeal
  • 1 cup barbecue sauce
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • salt to taste
  • black pepper to taste
  • 6 slices American cheese
  • 6 hamburger buns split
  • 12 frozen breaded onion rings cooked according to the package directions

Directions

  • In a slow cooker, add the beef, the bacon, the onions, the bell peppers, the water, the oatmeal, the barbecue sauce, and the brown sugar and stir to combine.
  • Cover the slow cooker and cook until the flavors meld together and the vegetables are tender, about 4-6 hours on low.
  • Add the salt and the black pepper to the sloppy Joe mixture.
  • Place 1 slice of the American cheese on each of the hamburger bun bottoms.
  • Spoon the sloppy Joe mixture evenly on top of the cheese slices.
  • Top the sloppy Joe mixture on each bun, then top each with 2 of the onion rings.
  • Close the sandwiches and serve.
