Recipe Background

This Easy Ham Quiche blends familiarity with a touch of elegance, perfect for impressing colleagues.
Back in the early days of my teaching career, I distinctly remember that first big faculty meeting. With butterflies in my stomach, I scrambled to prepare something impressive but comforting for colleagues who I admired and feared in equal measures. Quiche became my secret weapon—easy enough to make even on a hectic morning yet sophisticated enough to garner some impressed nods. I’ve always believed in the power of a flaky, pre-made pie crust that bakes to perfection, providing a buttery foundation that’s as reliable as my favorite lesson plan.
As I whipped together eggs and milk, I felt like a magician conjuring something beautiful out of simple ingredients. Adding ham and the cheese of my choice added a sense of personalization. Green onions were the unsung heroes, bringing a subtle hint of sophistication. Ensuring a crispier crust by optionally pre-baking it was a tip passed down from a seasoned colleague. Remembering to sprinkle the remaining cheese on top created a golden crown once fully baked. That day, as everyone took their first bite, I knew I had left a mark—showing up for breakfast with a dish warm from my oven and full of my personality.
It’s this very quiche, loved by my fellow educators, that reminds me of the warmth of community and those first steps I took in a world that seemed daunting yet filled with promise.

Ingredients

  • 1 refrigerated pie crust
  • 8 large eggs
  • 1 cup milk or cream
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 cup ham cooked and chopped
  • 1 1/2 cups cheese of your choice, shredded, and divided
  • 3 tablespoons green onions sliced

Directions

  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
  • Unroll the pie crust and press it into a 9-inch pie plate. Make sure to crimp the top of the edges.
  • Optionally, you can bake the pie crust for 15 minutes for a crispier bottom.
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine together the eggs, milk, salt, and pepper using a whisk.
  • Add the ham, 1 cup of the cheese, and the green onions into the pie crust.
  • Pour the egg mixture over the top of the other ingredients in the pie crust.
  • Sprinkle the top of the egg mixture with the remaining cheese.
  • Bake the quiche until the crust is a light golden brown, about 25 minutes.
  • Cover the dish with aluminum foil to prevent any unwanted added browning.
  • Bake until the center of the quiche is completely cooked, about 10-15 minutes.
  • Let the dish cool for about 5-10 minutes.
  • Slice and serve!
