Recipe Background

Frosty's Snowball is a whimsical cheese ball snowman perfect for small gatherings.
When I first moved into my tiny, downtown apartment, everything was new and a bit overwhelming. I wanted to welcome my friends over for a fun get-together, but my kitchen was as cramped as a broom closet. That’s when I stumbled upon the idea of Frosty’s Snowball. With only a few ingredients needed, like cream cheese and pepper jack cheese, it was both manageable and flavorful. A dash of Cajun seasoning added just the right kick, bringing a lively twist to my snowman-themed creation. With this dish, entertaining didn’t require a big space, just a bit of imagination and some clever presentation.
The charm of this dish is in forming the snowman. I carefully shaped two cheese balls, one larger than the other, before chilling them. Letting the cheese set overnight in the fridge made the assembly the next day a breeze. A baby carrot nose, peppercorn eyes, and a jaunty jalapeño hat brought our snowman to life, while rosemary sprigs gave him character. It was a whimsical centerpiece for that inaugural apartment gathering, and guests couldn't help but admire the creativity on display.
As laughter filled the small space, everyone dipped into the snowman with crackers of their choice. It became clear that good company and a little culinary inventiveness could make even the smallest of apartments feel warm and welcoming. I learned that pouring love—and a little bit of Cajun spice—into my cooking could truly bring people together.

Ingredients

  • 2 (8-ounce) packages cream cheese softened
  • 1 (8-ounce) package pepper jack cheese shredded
  • 1 tablespoon salt-free Cajun seasoning
  • 1 (1-ounce) packet ranch dressing mix
  • 1 baby carrot
  • 10 whole peppercorns
  • 1 jalapeño
  • 2 rosemary sprigs
  • crackers to taste, of your choice, for serving

Directions

  • In a large bowl, add the cream cheese, the pepper jack cheese, the Cajun seasoning, and the ranch dressing mix and mix to combine.
  • Divide the cheese mixture into 2 balls, 1 made from about 1/4 of the cheese mixture and 1 from the remaining 3/4.
  • Wrap and chill the cheese balls for at least 4 hours and up to overnight.
  • Unwrap the cheese balls.
  • On a serving plate, add the larger cheese ball.
  • Place the smaller cheese ball on top of the larger cheese ball, creating a snowman.
  • Slice the tip off of the baby carrot.
  • Press the tip of the baby carrot into the top cheese ball, creating a carrot nose for the snowman.
  • Using the whole peppercorns, create eyes, a mouth, and buttons for the "snowman."
  • Cut the top with the stem off of the jalapeño.
  • Place the top of the jalapeño with the stem facing up on the top cheese ball, creating a hat for the snowman. Reserve the remaining jalapeño for a separate use or discard.
  • Place the rosemary sprigs in the body of the snowman to create arms.
  • Serve with the crackers.
