A flaky, buttery crust is folded around a lemon-infused strawberry filling and baked until golden-brown. Mmmm. Plus, then it's crowned with creamy vanilla ice cream! Mmmmmm! Strawberry Galette is a gratifying addition to your dessert repertoire that everyone will be impressed with. It is just so regal!
Ingredients
- flour, to taste, for dusting a work surface
- 1 (9-inch) pie crust, store-bought or homemade
- 2 cups fresh strawberries, hulled and sliced
- 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon lemon zest, plus 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- 1 egg, beaten
- 1 teaspoon brown sugar
- vanilla ice cream, optional, to taste, for serving
Directions
- Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F.
- Line a quarter sheet baking pan with parchment paper.
- Using the flour, lightly dust a work surface.
- Add the pie dough to the prepared work surface and, using a rolling pin, roll it into a round 10-inch circle. If using store-bought frozen pie dough, let it defrost before rolling it out, about 20 minutes.
- In a large bowl, add the strawberries, the granulated sugar, the lemon zest, the lemon juice, and the cornstarch and toss well to combine.
- Evenly add the strawberry filling mixture onto the center of the rolled pie dough circle, leaving a 2-inch border around the edges.
- Fold all of the dough edges over the strawberry filling mixture.
- Carefully transfer the galette onto the prepared baking pan and with a pastry brush, brush the beaten egg over the folded edges of the dough.
- Evenly sprinkle the dough with the brown sugar.
- Bake until the crust is golden-brown, about 25 minutes.
- Transfer the baked galette from the oven to a wire rack and let it rest before serving, about 15 minutes.
- With a sharp knife, cut the galette into slices and serve with the ice cream.
