It's basically a burger that decided buns were limiting its potential!
The name is doing this recipe absolutely no favors.Because what’s actually happening here is a cheeseburger, bacon, pickles, and melty cheese getting wrapped in bread and baked until golden and glorious. It's messy, over-the-top, and completely committed to the bit. The kind of recipe that makes people laugh when they hear the name and then immediately ask for a second slice.
Hack it: Use ground turkey instead of beef; it tastes just as good, with fewer calories.Swap the ketchup for an equal amount of marinara sauce to add a little Italian flair.Make the topping more interesting with poppy seeds, flaxseed, and sesame seeds.Skip the bread dough and use puff pastry for a different version of the same recipe.
Leftovers: Make a breakfast of champions by topping any leftover slices with a fried egg, and enjoy the best breakfast of your life.Pizza vibes: dice any leftovers, scatter over a pizza, and bake until golden.Make a burger bowl: Chop the leftovers and scatter over a big green salad with pickles, cherry tomatoes, and a creamy dressing.

Directions
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or spray with non-stick cooking spray.
In a large pan, add the ground beef and the diced onion and cook over medium-high heat, while crumbling the meat, until the beef is browned, about 5-7 minutes.
Season the beef mixture with the salt and the pepper.
Drain any excess grease from the pan.
Using the flour, lightly dust a work surface. Roll the French bread dough out on the work surface into a large rectangle.
Spread the ketchup and the mustard evenly over the dough, leaving a 1/2-inch border around the edges.
Evenly layer the cooked beef mixture on top of the condiment layer.
Sprinkle the crumbled bacon and the chopped pickles over the beef layer.
Place the American cheese on top of the bacon and the pickles in a single layer.
Roll up the dough, starting from one long end to the other, and seal the edges.
Place the rolled-up dough onto the prepared baking sheet, seam-side down.
Brush the dough with the beaten egg.
Sprinkle the sesame seeds on top of the egg wash.
Bake until the dough is golden-brown, about 20-25 minutes.
Let the bread cool for at least 5 minutes.
Slice and serve with the Thousand Island dressing.
